1. HOW TO: Get Started

Introduction

In order to use this website you will need to ensure that certain plugins are installed on your computer. This guide will show you how to find out if you have these plugins already, and how to install them if you don't.

You will first need to ensure that you are viewing the website in one of the following supported web browsers:

The plugins that you will need to have installed are:

  • Adobe Flash Player
  • Adobe Shockwave
  • Shockwave Xtras & Soundfont

1) Checking for Plugins

Certain plugins are required to view Resources on this site. Most of these are standard web technologies, so there is a good chance that you have them already installed. At the top of the home page is a bar displaying the status of these plugins - If you see 4 green ticks then you are ready to go. If not, follow the steps below to install any plugins you may be missing.

a. Adobe Flash Player

If you see a red cross next to the Flash Player entry, you will need to install the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.

Click here to go to the Adobe Flash Player download page . Follow the instructions provided to download and install Flash Player. Please note that you may need to restart your browser after installation.

b. Adobe Shockwave

If you see a red cross next to the Shockwave entry, you will need to install the latest version of Adobe Shockwave.

2) Shockwave Xtras & Soundfont

Certain website functionality requires the use of Shockwave Xtras. In order to download these Xtras you will need to view this sample resource. Shockwave will then ask if you wish to download three Xtras - click "Agree" on each install page as it appears. Shockwave will then download and install the Xtras automatically.

You will also be prompted to install a Soundfont. This is a collection of audio samples that is used to produce the instrument sounds in Charanga Resources. Open the sample resource and choose the "Hi/Large" option from the installer to automatically install the Soundfont.
